The creation of the Barangay Solid Waste Management Committee was initiated in order to organize a program on Solid Waste Management in the barangay. Through the committee which was represented by different sectors (Religious Organization, Farmers Association, Women’s Association, Senior Citizen Association), non-government organization (NGO), school sector (Biayon Elementary School) in the community and nine Purok leaders, they will supervise, implement and monitor the program in their respective area. The SWM committee will be responsible for the formulation of the proposed Barangay Ordinance regarding the Solid Waste Management. This would intensify the present program that is already established in the community. It is expected that there will be strict compliance and adherence to the program since the ordinance was finally approved.
The committee took oath last February 13, 2017.
THE GREEN REVOLUTION: Inter-purok Contest for the Cleanest and Greenest Purok
February 2017
The Green Revolution Inter-purok Contest was divided into 2 parts - the Purok Level and Household Level. The purok stations were checked and evaluated for the presence of MRF, compost pits, and communal garden. Random households per purok were selected to assess for the presence of own waste segregation bins, compost pits, backyard garden, and own sanitary toilet. The activity aimed to improve the awareness of the people in the community regarding good environmental sanitation. For sustainability, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed between the MENRO, Asset-Based Community Development with Equity (ABCDE) Foundation, SWM Committee and ADZU-SOM students to turn-over the responsibilities and continue the Green Revolution annually.
